Dr. Mahret Ifeoma Kupka is an art scholar, freelance writer and, since 2013, senior curator at the Museum Angewandte Kunst in Frankfurt/Main, Germany. In her exhibitions, lectures, publications, and interdisciplinary projects, she addresses the issues of racism, memory culture, representation, and the decolonization of art and cultural practices in Europe and on the African continent.
She is a member of the advisory board of the Initiative of Black people in Germany (ISD) and of TEXTE ZUR KUNST and founding member of the Neue Deutsche Museumsmacher*innen (a network of BIPoC museum practitioners in Germany). In addition, she has been and continues to be active on international juries, scientific panels, and search committees. She studied Economics in Heidelberg as well as Aesthetics/Media Theory, Philosophy, Curatorial Practice and Exhibition Design at the Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design, where in 2015 she received her doctorate with a dissertation on “Modeblogs und der Mythos der Revolutionierung der Mode”.
Dr. Mahret Ifeoma Kupka ist Kunstwissenschaftlerin, freie Autorin und seit 2013 Senior Kuratorin am Museum Angewandte Kunst in Frankfurt am Main. In ihren Ausstellungen, Vorträgen, Texten und interdisziplinären Projekten befasst sie sich mit den Themen Rassismus, Erinnerungskultur, Repräsentation und der Dekolonisierung von Kunst- und Kulturpraxis in Europa und auf dem afrikanischen Kontinent.
Sie ist im Beirat der Initiative Schwarze Menschen in Deutschland (ISD) e.V. und von TEXTE ZUR KUNST sowie Gründungsmitglied der Neuen Deutschen Museumsmacher*innen. Zudem war und ist sie in internationalen Juries, wissenschaftlichen Gremien und Findungskommissionen aktiv. Sie studierte Volkswirtschaftslehre in Heidelberg, sowie Kunstwissenschaft/Medientheorie, Philosophie und Ausstellungsdesign an der Hochschule für Gestaltung in Karlsruhe, wo sie 2015 mit einer Dissertation zum Thema “Modeblogs und der Mythos der Revolutionierung der Mode” promovierte.
